I am not a smoker or was ever exposed to second had smoke. my chest x-ray says i have copd. how is that possible? should i request a repeat x-ray?

The label is not limited to smokers. It can arise from simple genetic factors, recurrent lower respiratory infections, exposure to a variety of environmental factors, etc. You should discuss the findings with your treating doc to see what this means to you. If they think another study would be needed they can arrange it. If it were me I would want lung function studies to confirm/exclude it.

COPD can affect 10-20% of people who never smoked. Factors such as air pollution, inhaling dust or the fumes used for cooking and heating purposes. Chemicals or fumes in the workplace as well as genetic problem of having too little of a protein called alpha- 1 antitrypsin. Asthma is also a factor.
