Could you tell me how copd and ipf, differ on a chest x-ray?

Basically: IPF is characterized by fibrosis or fibrous tissue in the lung. Emphysema is characterized by lung destruction and formation of large cyst like spaces in the lung. These are very different issues (unless they occur together in the same patient, which they can)

Yes: There are differences, but one cannot do that in the space allowed to answer questions. Please consider a consult with me. COPD =hyperinflation IPF = (chronic) interstitial lung disease. books have been written about these conditions.

See below: COPD may be normal or CXR or may show flattened diaphragms, hyperinflated lungs, and potentially blebs. IPF will show "scarring" or dirty appearing lung fields on CXR, usually in the lower lobes. CT scan is a much better test for both.

COPD: tends to cause increased lung volumes(hyperinflation, flattened diaphragm), IPF does not. COPD often results in lung destruction with bulla formation, so the lungs look hyperlucent(darker) on xray, IPF does not, IPF causes fibrosis/scarring, resulting in increased "lung markings". There are other distinctions, but not enough space here!
