Work up needed: pulmonary function tests, sleep study, upper endoscopy to r/o gerd, v-q scan to r/o chronic pulmonary embolic disease, echocardiogram, blood tests to r/o collagen vascular disease i.e. lupus etc.

Extreme short of breath. My pulmonary doctor first diagnosed as asthma, then after more tests, says I have copd. How do I know it's not lung cancer?
Other than COPD, what would cause shortness of breath& pain w/breathing in, plus focal airspace disease on chest X-ray? No cough/fever/phlegm.
Never have enough air in my lungs to take a real deep breath. Could this be COPD or lung cancer?
