A member asked:

Is an mri better than a ct for diagnosing ear/hearing problems that cause tinnitus? i have a high-pitched ringing in both ears all the time, and can't pop my ears. vitamin b12 and steroids have not helped. any suggestions would be great?

For the type of structures being imaged MRI will be better for detail. However, causes for tinnitus remain extremely difficult to find and there is no guarantee that the MRI will prove to be diagnostic.

In my experience, in the absence of an acoustic neuroma, some inner ear problems, or small ear ossicle dysfunction, have never seen successful explanations for tinnitus uncovered by either MRI or CAT scans
