How does a hypochondriac know when to see a doctor/er? honestly, if i saw a doctor for every symptom i had, id be there every week. everything can seem alarming and nothing all at the same time to a regular non medical person like me. any advice?

Run your symptoms by somebody you know and trust and who knows you well. Establishing a good relation with your primary care doc may help as well in getting his (her) advise whenever in doubt. Majority of times reassurance is needed.

Agree with advice from Dr. P. Would add that you consider some intervention to help you deal with the emotional component. Have noted excellent outcomes from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and have noted that biofeedback may provide additional help.
