A member asked:

I had blood work done and my red blood count was 3.4 flagged low. is this bad?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A normal RBC count for women typically falls somewhere between 4.2 to 5.4 million/mcL. A level of 3.4 million/mcL is low, but the question anyone should ask is "why is it low?" For women in their late 40's, menopause or occult bleeding are possible concerns to look out for. However, a full history and discussion of you labs should be held with your primary doctor.
