My son has strep and flu b both right now. he started cefdinir 3 days ago and throat seems to be getting worse (more swelling, ear red) , urgent care said switch to zpack today. just wanted a second opinion. he has been on several antibiotics lately?

It is pretty unusual to have a combination of strep and influenza B. Lack of symptomatic relief after taking cefdinir makes me wonder if he has been a strep carrier. Persistence of sore throat is likely due to influenza B, and switching antibiotics will not be of help. If he's been prescribed an antiviral such as Tamiflu, he should feel better soon. Watch for shortness of breath.
