2 yr old son, 103.9f fever 1 day, runny nose, occasional cough, red throat. flu test negative. dr said viral but gave antibiotic. what's his sickness?

Unclear: Need to ask doctor why he/she prescribed antibiotic if viral infection was suspected. Child has upper respiratory infection but unclear what organism doctor wanted antibiotics to cover.

Not sure.........: With a history of one day of fever runny nose and cough, this sounds very viral. I am not sure why your son was given an antibiotic--a throat swab was not done to consider strep throat, the only throat infection for which an antibiotic would be given,
