I started experiencing hip pain after a long run. the pain mostly occurs at the end of a step when i push my toe off the ground. it also hurts my hip when i'm lying down and try to lift my straight leg. no noticeable swelling. cause/treatment ideas?

Hip pain can be denoted in different areas. Some people say hip, and point to their SI joint, groin, or the outside of the hip. It could be as simple as a muscle strain, or a tendonitis, or more serious like a bulging disc causing the radiating pain from the lumbar spine. I would recommend a physical exam by your primary doctor first. You may need rest, physical therapy, or imaging.

Most likely, you “tweaked” your musculature. I would rest. I would not exert the area. Possibly, try some heat to area. Massage the area. Mostly rest, would be best. If no relief, Orthopedic/ Chiropractic evaluation.
