A member asked:

I am 36 and told through ct scan that i have a "low density" 6mm lesion on my kidney that they believe is a cyst but too small to characterize. ultrasound after saw nothing. really worried. are kidney lesions common? is low density a good thing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Kidney lesions are common especially cysts, Low densities lesions can include cysts, local infection, abcesses, and cancer. An MRI can differentiate whether a low density lesion is cancer. However, someone ordered the CT scan, you should go back to this doctor and discuss what the next plan is and whether an MRI is necessary.
