Cyst: If there were any doubts about the cyst, this can typically be clarified on us. It will not help in regard to the fnh. However, it could be used as a baseline, so that ultrasound could be used in future to monitor fnh as it it easier and more cost effective than mri.

Nothing: Mri is a better test for both focal nodular hyperplasia (aka fnh) and for cyst than ultrasound. I would not expect ultrasound to add anything to the diagnosis of either of these 2 entities.

See below: Us may be used to confirm the cyst if the MRI was not performed with contrast. Us does not help further characterize the focal nodular hyperplasia, although it can be used for future follow up. It may also be possible that biopsy of the "probable" focal nodular hyperplasia was recommended and us is done to see if this nodule can be seen on us for us-guided biopsy.
