The average life span of sickle cell anemia patient is shorter than average people due to the sickle cell anemia complications ( stroke, acute chest syndrome, blood clots, infection etc) and iron overload that can lead to development of heart failure, liver failure etc. Please discuss more with your hematologist. Possibly: Iron overload from prior transfusions can lead to liver damage that ultimately could cause death. I recommend asking you physician about iron removal medications.
