Sickle cell anemia: Unfortunately yes you can . The average life span of sickle cell anemia patient is shorter than average people due to the sickle cell anemia complications ( stroke, acute chest syndrome, blood clots, infection etc) and iron overload that can lead to development of heart failure, liver failure etc. Please discuss more with your hematologist. Iron chelating agent and hydroxy urea are important 4 u.

Possibly: Iron overload from prior transfusions can lead to liver damage that ultimately could cause death. I recommend asking you physician about iron removal medications.
