No reason not if....: You need to be evaluated by a dentist with sufficient training & experience in treating patients with tmd (temporomandibular dysfunction). Many dentists have little understanding as to causes, treatment & long term success expectations, and merely make a night guard, which in itself if often helpful, but not necessarily the entire remedy. With proper evaluation & treatment, expect some normalcy.

Depends: Tmj can be a chronic condition, but with the right interventions, you can get to a state of relative comfort. I have always advocated using massage therapy (especially intraoral massage) and good chiropractic care in conjunction with dental treatments for tmj. The muscles and ligaments surrounding the joint are connected to other muscles of the head and neck, and all should be treated together.
