A member asked:

My son's temperature was 38.9 so we did a full blood count with the result showing his wbc is over 11,000. we did a blood culture to know if he has an infection and the result showed he had no infection. pls what can triggered his wbc to be so high?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Elevated WBC count is anon specific test which just tells you presence of infection or inflammation or reaction. The type of cells abnormally high gives an indication of the cause. Your doc has to pursue it further or repeat the test if it has normalized
