Had a colonoscopy which revealed hyperplastic polyp on biopsy. gi doctor said given size and location he wants to repeat colonoscopy and remove it as it could be mistaken for sessile serrated polyp/adenoma. could this be cancer?

Yes and that is the reason to get it out.

Why did he biopsy it? He should have removed it at time of first colonoscopy!!! If he was concerned about size and location, it should have been removed initially and avoid an unnecessary second colonoscopy or if it was too large to remove, referred you to a colorectal surgeon. I’d consider complaining and finding a different doctor in the future.
