Ankle instability: Ankles that have had multiple sprains are prone to repeated sprains. The best exercises to do are lower impact exercises such as swimming or jogging in the pool. A stationary bike at the lowest setting can be done as well. If you prefer to walk on a treadmill or at an outdoor track, wear a laced-up ankle brace. Do not do jumping or lateral movements. A physical therapist can help tremendously.

Depends on injury: One good exercise for almost any ankle injury once it is healed is stationary cycling. It helps increase your range of motion, strengthens the muscles about the ankle and is low impact.

OTC Ankle brace: You're better off using an otc brace or splint that trying to tape yourself up at home. It's not as easy as the professional trainers make it look. You could also just see a podiatrist - many of us stock simple braces for simple sprains.
