A member asked:

Is a focal chondropathy the same as osteoarthritis? my mri says focal subchondral edema (7mm) with overlying cartilage irregularity, consistent with focal chondropathy. i have had long-standing pain in the affected ankle?

Chondropathy is wording that implies a disorder of cartilage, not bone.

The report indicates abnormality of articular cartilage not osteoarthritis. However, loss of cartilage can and will lead to osteoarthritis. It would be prudent to consult a rheumatologist for evaluation and treatment.
