I have an infected broken off tooth and am on day 2 of my amoxicillian and vicodin and my mouth is still swelling up a bit? is this normal? can't get into the oral surgeon for a month...?

If your dentist doesn't think you should wait much longer to see a specialist, get another oral surgeon to treat you. You may have to call a school of dental medicine to get a prompt appointment.

It takes a few days for the antibiotic to arrest the soft tissue infection. The problem with the broken off tooth is that it is still allowing saliva, bacteria, and decay to trickle into the bone surrounding the tooth. Basically you're fighting an uphill battle. You'll need to be seen sooner than a month.
