Each extraction is slightly different. Obviously a periodontally involved "loose tooth" is easier to extract than a long rooted healthy tooth. If your generalist feels s/he can perform the procedure there should be no difference.

A loose tooth can be extracted by your dentist with good anesthesia. An oral surgeon is best if tooth is broken down and your dentist feels it best for you If you are comfortable and trust your dentist and he or she says they can extract any other tooth than let them do the extraction. The infection is being treated so you should be fine. If you are so afraid than an oral surgeon can give you IV
