That's overly simplistic. The best approach is to ignore symptoms entirely. Most people with new HIV do not have symptoms at all; and most people with symptoms -- even when they are apparently typical for acute HIV infection -- do NOT have HIV. Have only safe sex, do not share drug injection equipment, and then rely on testing alone to judge whether or not you might have HIV. Good luck, stay safe!
