A member asked:

As per cdc guidelines hiv window period is 6 weeks, is this applicable for both types of hiv 1 & 2 ? as per my understanding 4th generation antigen is only for hiv 1 and only left with antibody which is recommended to test at 3 months?

The third generation HIV antibody tests, and the antibody component of the AgAb (4th generation) blood test, are conclusive for HIV2 by 8 weeks. Some experts advise 3 months as a margin of error but it really isn't necessary.
