I am not sure what "calcified bladder" your doctor told you about but most calcified visceral organs in the body can be detected by simple X-ray or CT scan, no need for a cystoscopy unless you have bladder symptoms which require a cystoscopy for the diagnosis. By my knowledge, there is no association between hbp (I assume high blood pressure) and "calcified bladder".

Calcification of the bladder is rare specially at a young age 'many years ago'). It has no relation to HBP. Why would you need a urethral exam? Have the doc explain that. Yes for that exam local anesthesia can be used and you can also be sedated to calm you. Always fully understand the reasons for any test or treatment before you undergo it.Good luck
