Tooth paste won't help much unless you use baking soda toothpaste or you can make a paste just by mixing baking soda powder with water. Why don't you just use baby teething gel OTC such as Oragel for pain, especially before meal? Most canker sores will heal spontaneously within a week or 2 weeks in maximum.

No, you cannot. Canker sores usually resolve within two weeks.
