A member asked:

My job recommends i get exposed to pepper spray. im concerned it will damage my eyes, given the fact i have corneal scarring and a strong prescription (-6.5). the spray has alcohol and pepper particles. should i get exposed or contact my optometrist?

It is strange that a job requires you to be exposed instead of 'might be' exposed to pepper spray. Let your employer know and ask your ophthalmologist for opinion and precautions or medical exemption if that can be given. Good luck

This should never be recommended by any employer. Pepper spray to the eyes has been documented to cause permanent ocular injury and vision loss. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15785998/
