Severe pain: Pepper spray is very irritating and painful. It causes chemical burns when sprayed into the eyes. Having contact lenses in when this happens prolongs the exposure and increases the damage.

Pepper spray: Remove contact lenses. Flush with copious amounts of saline or water. Having contact lenses in place could increase inflammation.
