Is the procedure to remove the ingrown nail? If so, this is likely the best treatment for the infection. You should call the surgeon doing the procedure and let him/her know what it looks like so they can decide how to proceed. You may need a local treatment in addition to the Bactrim. The surgeon is the best one to decide so call the surgeon. Good luck!

I assume that the operating surgeon, as well as hospital or surgicenter protocol, would prefer to eradicate the active MRSA infection before exposing the facility& its instruments to this infection. As Dr.F advises, notify your surgeon of your current drainage and get instructions.

Mersa needs to be treated aggressively by antibiotics to which it is sensitive- usually intravenously. Then asap the toenail has to be taken care of -otherwise it will not heal and the infection not go away, or will recur
