A member asked:

I have an infected toe from removing a ingrown toenail. i have some bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) i've started taking. how long should it take to clear up?

Soaking and topical: These usually resolve in a week or two. Epsom salt soaks can be to draw out the infection. My recipe is 2 tablespoons of epson salt in a large bowl or basin (large enough for your foot) of lukewarm water. Soaking for 10 -15 min twice a day for a week. If it does not clear up or feel better in the next few days, you should consult with a physician. Topcial antibiotics are preferred for this.
