If you have an acute gastroenteritis both enzymes can be elevated.

According to our lab a lipase is normal up to 160 is normal and an amylase up to 140 is normal. If I had a patient with these values and no significant abdominal symptoms or abnormal physical findings, I'd reassure him/her that there is nothing to be concerned about.
