20 years ago i had a brief period of alcohol for around 6 months (in moderate quantity), gave up since then and got no history of liver problem. recently had bile duct obstruction from a stone, it is removed. does this stop liver recovery?

No, that transient bile duct obstruction does not have any impact on your liver with history of alcohol use in a short time more than 20 years ago. Liver has good regenerative capacity, you should only worry when liver fibrosis and/or cirrhosis were present in the past. Without these lesions, your liver was considered normal before the stone event.
