A member asked:

I'm 48 and had a gallstone stuck in the bile duct which got recently removed and i'm now free of all symptoms. the removal of duct stone essentially cures the acute or chronic cholestasis and prevents any permanent damage to the liver, right?

Yes, liver tissues have good regenerative capacity. You should not suffer any long term consequences from that episode of acute biliary obstruction.

The long term effects of cholestasis on your liver remain uncertain and the tendency to develop gallstones will remain, however many patients never develop a second acute obstruction after diet adjustments and/or treatment.

This short-term blockage of the bile duct will not cause any permanent damage. Refrain from alcohol.
