In my echocardiogram in mid-may it said 'trivial regurgitation in mitral valve but no evidence of stenosis'. in the cardiac mri done at the end of june it said 'interatrial septum is mildly aneurysmal, bulging to the right'. are these connected?

Yes, those findings in echo and heart MRI could be related. I wonder why you had these tests done and the reason why the heart MRI was ordered. However, trivial MR is usually clinically insignificant.
