Abnormal heart sounds, or murmurs/rubs/gallops, are best heard and identified with a clinician's stethoscope and an echocardiogram. A chest x-ray and EKG are reassuring to rule out other things, however, does not fully evaluate the heart structure. Standing upright changes the blood flow to the heart, and minimally decreases blood pressure, which in turn decreases the turbulent flow.
