Truly black stools are caused by bleeding from high.in the stomach, duodenum, small intestine or from taking products containing bismuth like peptobismol or kaopectate or from taking iron supply. In my opinion hemorrhoidal bleeding would not produce truly black stools. Acid in the stomach reacts with red blood to turn it black. If you have concerns your MD can do a stool test in the office
