I made chocolate cupcakes yesterday, and today my stool is dark brown almost black, and loose. i did have a hemorrhoid burst yesterday for the 2nd time in two months and i have other digestive issues. will the cocoa powder have turned my stool black?

Truly black stools are caused by bleeding from high.in the stomach, duodenum, small intestine or from taking products containing bismuth like peptobismol or kaopectate or from taking iron supply. In my opinion hemorrhoidal bleeding would not produce truly black stools. Acid in the stomach reacts with red blood to turn it black. If you have concerns your MD can do a stool test in the office

black or dark brown stool occurs from upper and mid-GI bleed. Chocolate will not cause it unless it was infected and caused loose stools, Take care of your hemorrhoid's and if loose stools dont stop see your Md
