A member asked:

I tested positive for bacterial vaginosis at 9 weeks pregnant. my doctors office is giving me conflicting information on treatment. one doctor says to treat now and the other says not to and to wait until second trimester. is there a risk in waiting?

Maybe the second prefers to avoid the standard treatment (metronidazole) in the first trimester. It was once thought MTZ might be harmful to the fetus early in pregnancy, but that's now known to not be an issue. (However, some ObGs prefer to avoid almost all drugs in early pregnancy, even those proved safe.) BV is unpleasant and potentially harmful, and most experts would agree with the first doc.
