A 20-year-old female asked:

Worried of pregnancy. conception would have been 5 weeks ago. period late by a week. no symptoms besides cramping. had a false pregnancy test 2 days ago and plan to take another tomorrow morning. what are the odds of having two false negative tests?

Home pregnancy tests can be positive as soon as the first day of your missed period. Confirmation of pregnancy can involve additional testing such as blood test for hCG or a transvaginal ultrasound, typically done at 5 weeks to see the fetus in the gestational sac. Use first morning urine for best results.

That negative urine test is only called false negative if you have a positive blood test, not just your symptoms (missed period and cramp). If you are not pregnant, another test is also negative. Each commercial test has a different sensitivity so I would recommend a different or a more expensive test kit although a blood test (gold standard) is preferred.
