Allergies cause a localized histamine response which may lead to localized fluid accumulation. The lymph nodes are useful in draining excess fluids, foreign material as well as coordinating localized immune response. Slight swelling may be due to fluid clearing or immune response to any exposure (viruses, bacteria, trauma) in the head region. (not just the ear)
