? Kidney stone: It could be nothing more than muscle spasm that will resolve but a small kidney stone passing down the ureter can cause flank pain that often come in waves and can be very severe. A ct scan and us can miss a small stone that is not causing obstruction. Blood in the urine(often just microscopic) is often present and should be checked. Could also be inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel.

Flank pain: If the ct and us were negative, 2 other considerations include spinal nerve compression or a colon abnormality. See what your physician thinks about further work-up.
