A member asked:

I have pitting edema all over my body and my doctor recognizes i have water retention. but he won't treat it..why?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Many reasons: Edema can be due to too much salt in your diet leading to water retention to neutralize the salt. Diuretics work by making the kidneys leak salt and the water goes away with the salt. Lowering salt intake i preferable to medications. Edema can be due to hypothyroidism, reduced kidney function (that can go along with diabetes) and obesity/sleep apnea.
