Generally: The yolk sac is seen when the mean gestational sac diameter is 8mm and a heartbeat at 16mm. You can get the dimensions of the sac from the ultrasound technologist. Best of luck.

Not necessarily: In ideal scanning conditions, ultrasound can show a yolk sac at about 5 weeks. I wouldn't be concerned until after 6 weeks.
