A member asked:

My doctor suspects i have lupus and sent me for an echo. results normal except for "anterior mitral valve leaflet is long and slightly thickened". no prolapse or regurgitation. what would cause long/thickened leaflet? lupus or something else? thanks?

Echocardiograms get more and more detailed. Very fine, small structures can be seen. Whether these are significant or just variations of normal with no actual significance is best determined with your GP or cardiologist, reviewing your symptoms, lab results and echo.

Most likely not lupus but normal variant. Discuss with Dr who knows you. You did not say what lupus tests have shown. If negative not due to lupus.
