A member asked:

I have done a 24 hr urine test. and came back normal. (previously high protein). on the contrary my left kidney is still shrinking from 12/2020 at 10.9 to 02/2022 at 8.8 with the left being 12/2020 11.9 to 02/2022 at 11.1. should this be concerning?

In the previous answer, I asked you what the reason you have had serial renal ultrasound done. That size change is significant for 2 years and left kidney size of 8.8 cm at your age is abnormal. Impaired blood flow to the left kidney which causes kidney atrophy is suspected because you stated you had had no left kidney disease before. You need a renal nuclear scan to check split kidney function.

That much differntial shrinking suggests either pyelonephritisn or renal artery stenosis-especiaolly if you also have a high blood pressure problem. Discuss these with your team. Could also be differences in technique that account for the changes. The left is almost always larger than the right.
