If you were completely fasting overnight (not drinking any fluid at all) the serum protein can be slightly higher than the maximal limit and if it is true, your sodium level (Na) will be above 142 in the same blood test. Also can an infection boost the globulin part of the protein and total serum protein will be high as well. We usually neglect the minor change unless we try to get a correlation.
