A member asked:

Could a course of antibiotics (phenoxymethylpenicillin 250mg tabs, 8 per day for a week for sinusitis) affect the results of a syphilis test? antibiotics taken 6 weeks after potential exposure. test taken 5 days after finishing the course of pills?

It is recommended that one wait 4 weeks after taking antibiotics for another condition before being tested for sexually transmitted syphilis. If the VDRL or RPR test comes back negative, it could mean that the infection was cleared but if positive, it may or may not be cleared& you would have to inform your physician or the public health department to get advice about treatment or further testing
