A member asked:

Some surgeons say liver cysts should have be checked before thoractomy and others say no, what is your opinion?

For any surgery that: Is non emergent or elective, the patient should be fully evaluated and ideally be in the optimal or best condition to undergo that particular surgery or procedure. Preop studies should be done as appropriately indicated to insure this which may or may not include any further testing concerning what you are describing as liver cysts. Just ask the surgeon his thoughts on this.

It varies: Cysts can be pretty certain by ct or ultrasound. If not, then clarify. Other lesions may be less clear and should be diagnosed prior to a thoracotomy.
