Constipation due to colon cancer is uncommon and this symptom is only important when you suddenly have a change in bowel habit, not occasional constipated, especially at your age. To answer your question, yes, sedentary life style is a significant risk factor for constipation. You should increase fluid intake 30%, eat foods high in fiber & citric and exercise 3-4 times/week, one hour each session.

: You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods.
