I think you're observing mucus in your stools. Unless it's copious, it isn't serious. It often occurs in irritable bowel syndrome,constipation or diarrhea type. If your BM's don't become regular after drinking good amts of fluids&eating fiber daily,taking stool softeners & exercising daily,consult a gastroenterologist for evaluation & advice. Newer prescription meds are available.

There should be a reason for why you consider cancer as likely with rather common symptoms. Would suggest revising your diet, increase hydration and optimize physical activities/exercise. In case symptoms persist or worsen see your primary care doc to discuss your symptoms.
