Living in high altitude or heavy smoker are the common causes. Moderate dehydration and certain medication can result the same. If none of these conditions is present and these changes are new, your doctor will check again in 3 months and if the numbers get higher you will be referred to see a hematologist (a specialist in blood disease). Treatment is indicated when Hct goes above 55.
