A member asked:

Hi, for a while now i have felt a gap between the back of the bottom front teeth and the gum, and there's a little pocket between them. is this a sign of gum recession, or is it normal?

It may be gum recession. Although you are young, periodontal issues can affect young adults if their oral hygiene is poor and regular visits to the dentist for routine cleanings are non-existent. If it has been more than six months since your last professional cleaning, it's time to make an appointment.

You may have some gum recession that could have been prevented by doing all 3 of the following: 1. Bruising properly, including the tongue side of your teeth, twice daily for 2 full minutes. 2. Flossing Daily. 3. Regular 6 month Dental Examinations. Please call your Dentist for appointment to examine area and treat if indicated.
