Bright red blood usually means it came from near the outlet. Large, bulky or rapidly emptied poop can scratch the outlet or cause a fissure. Darker blood usually means it came from further up from hemorrhoids or other problems. Purple from further up. If it persists or is dark arrange to see your doc.

A visit is needed in order to assess for possible sources for the bleeding during a physical exam. While most of the time sources are benign and resolve in time, other times there are early signs of a condition that might be missed if not addressed properly. See your doc at your earliest convenience.

Any abnormal bleeding warrants evaluation. Your bleeding may be from hemorrhoids, but even hemorrhoidal bleeding can result in anemia and it would be prudent to see a doctor. Wish you good health!
