The dispensing pharmacy can call or locate your doctor for a refill. In most cases they will dispense a few pills or whatever medication you need to hold you over until your doctor can approve a refill.

You call same office or group with the pharmacy as an alternate as already suggested, coverage is provided for such requests if your doc is away. A visit is not always required to get a refill on maintenance drugs and your doc will make you aware when and if a visit is needed.
